Prayer of the Day

Friday 03 September 2010

Dear Lord, our life has a constant rhythm of coming and going.
Day by day we come to you for forgiveness and grace.
We live as your representatives in our homes, communities and places of work.
Week by week we come to worship you and discover more of your will for our lives.
We go to serve and to witness for you.
Forgive us when, because of selfishness or fear, we fail to go out and serve you as we ought.
Forgive us too, when we think we can serve you without first coming and waiting upon you for guidance and strength. Amen.

Paul Kingston, President of the Methodist Church in Ireland

In our days of weakness, O Christ, let us trust in your strength;
in our hours of darkness let us see your light;
in our seasons of doubt let us feel your presence;
and in our moments of despair let us cling to your Cross: for your truth and your mercy’s sake. Amen.

Francois Fénelon (1651-1715)
